The Role

Are you a passionate and experienced Class Teacher who believes in creating a stimulating, enabling, learning environment? Looking for a fresh challenge? Want to be part of an ambitious school with a supportive team and wonderful children. If you are motivated about developing the curriculum, raising standards and providing stimulating learning experiences, we want to hear from you!

We are seeking to appoint a Class Teacher at Upton St James, a wonderful and inclusive school in the Upton area of Torquay. Upton St James is based in a Victorian school building but hold modern, nurturing values and pride ourselves on our strong community links. Our Christian Ethos helps to create a warm, calm atmosphere, whilst priding ourselves on our high achievements.

The Academy is part of the St Christopher’s Trust - a family of 19 Church and Community Schools spanning three local authorities and providing a rich network of collaboration. The Trust will build a package of exceptional continuous professional development around the appointed teacher.

We are looking for a rigorous practitioner to bring learning to life for our pupils. We welcome applicants with a range of experiences and specialisms with a view to the successful applicant growing into a key role in our staff team.

We would particularly welcome applications from teachers with an interest in and/or experience of working with SEND learners – so if you are interested in becoming a SENDCO either now or in the future, then this could be a great opportunity for you!

Whatever your experience or specialist area, you will be skillful in challenging each pupil, whatever their starting point, using your strong pedagogical practice and philosophy so that every pupil can truly ‘Rise their best!’ With high expectations, you will be used to being proactive, as well as collaborating with others.

The class you will lead will be discussed at interview, based on your knowledge and experience.

This is an exciting role that will help shape the future development of the school. In joining Upton, you will be part of a friendly and welcoming staff team and a supportive community. You will develop your teaching and leadership skills in a Trust that has a strong focus on CPD and personal development. As a Church of England school, you will be happy to support the Christian ethos through our school values.

When completing an application please ensure you address all aspects of the person specification and list any additional subject strengths.

If you would like to arrange a tour of the school, please contact the school directly on 01803 326286.

Your completed application form should be submitted by Tuesday 21st May 2024 9.00am.  Interviews will be held on Friday 24th May 2024.
